South Dakota is Full of Surprises

SD is surprising...and a lot of flat on Hwy 18 and I-90...flat with only corn and hay fields for decoration. Our conversations be like...

J:  Hey, there's corn! 😃

M: Yup, corn 😶

J:  Hey..Hay...Hey, Get it?  😁

M: Yes, I got it. Want it back? 😏

J: Let's do another Mad Libs. 😉

And then...

Three perfect Sunflowers in a row along the roadside...alone...just out there..."The Sunflower Mystery" How did they appear?  Here are the ones we came up with.... What's your vote?

  • It was a miracle set out to bedazzle and confuse travelers.
  • A bird flew or pooped (yes, we have to add this option) in a perfectly straight line and delivered?
  • A health-conscious litter bug threw them out with her McDonald's bag?
  • The hay bale drivers (and they do bale the road right next to the highway) were fasting and reached the end of their eating window, so threw out the last few seeds...and  three of those seed fell in a perfect row.

And then...

What the heck? A big, I mean massive big, bull in the middle of acres of rolling flat...picture it... this bull is pulling a guy on a four-wheeler out of a ditch and off into the yonder of wherever.  Pulling it along like it was a toy wagon...like clipping along in the dang middle of nowhere! Nope, I didn't get a picture...you just have to imagine it!

And then...

Pyramids appeared! On and on go the flattish rolling hills...and then a few transmogrify into pyramids.

And then...Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills - Not flat...and Ryan would love these cliffs! My pictures, and even these I found on the web, don't do it justice.  I say, come here and look up! Wow!

We stayed at Spearfish City Park near a National Fish Hatchery...know more about fish than I did!
